JNC Establishment

The Jordanian Nursing Council is a government institution with administrative and financial independence, responsible for regulating the nursing profession in Jordan. Established in 2002 under temporary legislation, the council was later formalized by Law No. 53 in 2006. Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein is the council's esteemed chairperson, and its members include the secretary-general, along with 14 representatives from healthcare and educational institutions, as well as community representatives. The council became part of the government institutions restructuring process in 2012, followed by a significant transformation ensuring alignment of all its systems and directives with governmental regulations.

The council aims to enhance nursing services in the kingdom, safeguarding the community and improving their health by regulating and advancing the nursing profession both scientifically and practically

The Establishment of Jordanian Nursing Council ....Milestones

 

1995

The Minister of Health formed a committee, with representation from various health sectors in Jordan to set a strategic plan for nursing and midwifery services in Jordan, to improve health care service; establishing nursing council was one of the committee core recommendations

 

1999

HRH Princess Muna chaired a Meeting of Jordanian sectors and the first draft of the proposed JNC law came out and finalized

 

2002

The Jordanian Nursing Council temporary law was passed by Royal Decree in 2002.

1982

Preparation started to establish Nursing Council in Jordan by Nursing Leaders

 

1997

The Minister of Health formed a committee consisted of nursing leaders from various health sectors and headed by Dr. Rowaida Al-Ma'aitah to draw up a draft law for the Jordanian Nursing Council.

 

2001

Another meeting to complete the work on the JNC Law.

 

2006

The permanent Jordanian council law number 53 was issued after being passed by the Parliament. (53)

Aims

The Council aims at enhancing nursing services in the Kingdom which would amount to protecting members of the society and promote their health, through regulating the profession and developing it scientifically and practically according to legislations in effect, including the following:

  1. Joining in setting the national health strategy and in performing established plans and programs regarding the profession and their implementation.
  2. Developing human resources in the field of nursing to raise the standard of nursing performance in accordance with scientific and practical developments.
  3. Supporting scientific research with the aim of enhancing the development of the profession.
